Samsung Series 9 (2012)

Recently, I got a Samsung Series 9 (2012) ultra-book as a birthday present. I am not a technical geek. But there are some features in this gadget which will surely impress even a person who is technically a dumb.

This one is a graceful device with the dimension of 14 inches x 9.3 inches x 0.58 inches. Moreover this device weighs a mere 3.8 lbs. surely, this one can compete any of the 15” notebook present in the market currently with such portability.

The touchpad and the keyboard remains the same in the 2012 version of this Samsung series 9 as it was before. Typing fast in this keyboard is still very comfortable. I was able to type 68 words per minute with an ease using this keyboards.

The next thing that I should mention about this ultra-book is its sound quality. The sound quality is so very accurate even in the peak volume of this Samsung Series 9. I am a big time music buff and now I can enjoy the swelling orchestral tracks composed by Hans Zimmer using my notebook.

Let me mention some other prime features of this notebook:

  • Presence of a USB v2.0 port and two v3.0 ports.
  • There is a 4 in 1 card reader
  • There is an Ethernet port (micro) available in this notebook.
  • There are mini-VGA and microHDMI port included in this notebook also.
  • Combo mic/headphone jack
  • 1.3 megapixel webcam
  • Battery backup for around seven and half hours.

If you neglect some drawbacks like slow data transfer speeds or shallow key travel, this one is surely one of the best buys during this Christmas.

Lenovo Yoga

Good morning friend! How are you? I hope you are doing absolutely fine. Here in this article we will discuss a little about new Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13.

The first thing that I should mention in this context is that this Lenovo yoga is an Ultrabook. That means you can use this gadget as your laptop cum tablet PC. Now I will mention the basic specifications of this gadget first:

  • The dimension of this ultrabook is 13.1 x 8.9 x 0.67 cubic inches
  • The CPU used in the Ultrabook is Intel Ivy Bridge
  • It takes less than 7 seconds to resume from the hibernation mode
  • It comes with USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt
  • You will get the battery backup of 5 hours and more
  • It comes with Windows 8 operation system

I am no expert in the field of information technology. But I will mention some pros and cons of this convertible ultrabook from a user’s point of view. The biggest advantages of this gadget are:

  • Superb IPS display quality. It is soothing for my eyes.
  • The top-notch keyboard is very effective for typing.
  • This gadget is one of the most pocket-friendly ones I have ever seen if you consider the quality.
  • Superb performance.

Though I mentioned some excellent qualities of this Lenovo Yoga, I should mention some of its drawbacks too.

  • The absence of the backlit keyboard is a problem if you want to work in dark.
  • The touch response is not so consistent.
  • The battery backup time could have been better.
  • A disappointment for the gamers.

Though there are some drawbacks in this device, I will suggest you to go for Lenovo Yoga as it is the best thing present in the market in that price range.

Nokia Lumia 900

In recent times, lots of people asked me about new Nokia Lumia 900. People often ask me about its features, pros and cons. So now while I am having my morning coffee, I think I should write a little about Nokia Lumia 900. One thing I want to mention the foremost that I am not listing its advantages in different header. Actually all the key features in this gadget are its advantages.

Features:

  • Quad band GPRS/GSM/EDGE support
  • It supports Quad band 3G with 5.7 Mbps HSUPA support and 42 Mbps HSDPA
  • AMOLED touch screen (capacitive), 4.3 inches and 16m color combination present
  • Gorilla glass display in the phone with scratch resistance and AG polarizing efficiency
  • 8 megapixel camera (back camera, autofocus) and 1 megapixel front camera
  • It comes with the OS WP 7.5 (Mango). It is upgradable up to OS WP 7.8.

  • Presence of a digital compass
  • On board storage of 16 GB
  • Noise cancelation
  • USB port
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • FM radio and 3.5 mm audio jack.

Thumbs Down:

With so many excellent features this Lumia 900 comes with some prior disadvantages too. Some of them are:

  • Not upgradable to WP 8
  • Absence of USB mass storage system
  • Formats like DivX/XviD are not supported in this device
  • There is no memory card slot available.

Though there are some drawbacks in this device it won’t be a bad buy from my point of view at least. Good luck!

PlayStation Vita

Sony brought a revolution among the gamers few decades back when they came up with their very own PlayStation series. Now Sony is all set up to create another revolution by launching there later gaming device (handheld) called PlayStation Vita.

Features:

  • It comes with 2 quad core processors.
  • OLED touch-screen display of length 5 inches.
  • Dual analogue stick system
  • A rear touchpad. In fact this is for the first time in the history of gaming that a gaming device is coming with a rear touchpad.
  • Availability in two versions. 3G/Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi versions.

Thumbs Up:

  • The graphics in this device is simply the best if you consider its predecessors. I can assure all the gamers of having a great time after seeing its graphics. In fact the touch-sense of this device is pretty consistent.
  • The analogue stick with it is very well built.
  • I have already mentioned about the presence of the rear touchpad in PS Vita. Believe me; this feature is going to make the gamers crazy. I was playing the game called Little Big Planet. And this rear touchpad is taking the game to some different level.

Thumbs Down:

  • The biggest disadvantage of this device is its cost. For example: you need to spend £279 for the 3G PS Vita. At that cost you can buy a home console fully equipped.
  • The accessories related to this are equally costly. For example the 8GB memory card for vita costs around £27.

Now if you really can afford, the Sony PlayStation Vita is a best buy as the Christmas is heading up. Good bye!

Though this phone is rated quite high by the tech-geeks, it has some drawbacks such as:

  • Absence of a dedicated camera button.
  • PenTile Matrix in the screen
  • Tech geeks always prefer Ice-cream Sandwich Android over the Gingerbread version.
  • If you go for looks, this Samsung Exhilarate is pretty ordinary compared to its counterparts.

Now, it is your duty to read the features and the drawbacks very carefully, put them on a scale and take the decision of buying it or not. Thanks!

Impressed by the Mall Photo Booth Equipment

My family and that i were with the mall performing some shopping. It’s form of our favorite pastime since i can stroll around and check out my phone and follow my fantasy baseball teams while my spouse takes your children into the box stores to locate cheap clothing – we obtain cheap clothing given that they just dirty it down and rip everything up anyway, so don’t judge. Well, i was in the mall, and I was minding my own, personal business, when my wife decides that today has to be perfect day for any family portrait. Now I hadn’t stood a hair cut in a few time, and that i certainly didn’t shower that morning, however, if the wife turns into a notion in her head there’s no steering away from it. So we went along to the photo portion of the department store, I couldn’t believe that still existed, so we got set up.

There were utilizing some interesting looking photography backdrops , plus they got the photography lighting trained upon us just so. I was interested in the gear we were holding using in comparison to the photo, which can be just fine because my estimation about the photos themselves would surely go unheeded. After the shot, where I attempted to look as happy while i could, I asked the employees what type of equipment these folks were using. They told me they’d gotten some photo lighting kits for pretty cheap and were using those. Well, the photos became available pretty good, so now it’s my job to discover someone who will frame them for all of us so we can hang them for the walls leading up in the front door as much as the second floor of your home. Everyone knows that’s where you’re meant to hang such photos, so that everyone can see your family.

Is technology aimed at the older generations?

Until recently the answer to this title was almost certainly no – or at least not for the bulk of gadgets and devices. However, there has been a realisation that with time and money to spend the older generations are a sizable market for tech developers. Technology aimed at people who may have health issues in later life is based on economic factors and concern for their well-being – but just what is available?

New developments

New products are being developed on a daily basis, they are often refinements on existing ideas but now have a bias towards being of benefit to the older generations. Typical of this process would be keypads on phones and computers that are larger or brighter.

Phones may also have clearer speaker systems or means of recognising your voice commands. Chairlifts and homelifts between floors have been around for some time but now they are more compact and fit unobtrusively into homes without major structural alterations – providing you with the option to travel upstairs and downstairs smoothly and safely.

Likewise, assisted bathing units or kitchen gadgetry makes cooking safer and easier for people with physical problems and are now readily available.

Social gadgets

The older generation may well be interested in social media or even playing video games, but it is far more likely that they would be interested in technology that provides them with assistance for whatever problems they may be having. Complicated technology is less likely to be considered by this age group, which these days stretches over a growing time span as people live longer, more independent lives.

Many will already be using modern technology without realising it, anything electrical is by nature technological. The process of refining means that the complex workings of many of these things become hidden away in the design, making them a lot simpler to use. Within a very short space of time we have gone from a mechanical age of development into a software/hardware revolution.

If you think of the many jobs around your home or office, then somewhere there will be a gadget that can do it for you, from the simple electronic tin opener to complex monitoring systems for the elderly. As future generations get older, people who have grown up with this technology and will demand more consideration as they understand more clearly what is possible.

Can you get more from your iPhone when it’s unlocked?

Unlocking a phone disconnects it from the service provider, enabling owners with expired carrier contracts to free their handsets to take advantage of other offers. It’s generally agreed upon that unlocking a smartphone will save money at home and abroad.

Saving money by unlocking your phone

Service providers aim to offer competitive rates, so once an existing contract has ended, it’s usually possible to get much better deals with other carriers by shopping around, rather than simply rolling over the current contract. When travelling abroad, having an unlocked phone means alternative SIM cards can be inserted and used in different countries. For example, while on a trip to the US, rates for domestic calls or texts, international calls and data transfer will be exceptionally high with a UK account. Buying a prepaid SIM card in the US or purchasing a global card that is suitable for a number of different countries is a cheaper way to communicate and to do business when travelling internationally.

Business people at home can also benefit from unlocking their iPhone 4, enabling them to use different SIM cards to access any of the current network mobile communication providers trouble-free. For example, different networks have competitive rates for different functions – it may be more economical and faster to use one network for the internet and another to send texts abroad. There are some networks that offer great SIM deals for unlocked handsets. One example is the SIM-only network giffgaff, which helps potential customers via its giffgaff Unlockapedia – offering useful tips, hints and cautions to phone owners wishing to unlock their iPhone 4.

Options for unlocking your phone

There are a number of good tips on how to unlock an iPhone 4 device, which can be done by an individual owner for free as long as instructions are followed carefully. The network provider can also unlock an iPhone using iTunes. The amount of time it will take to unlock a phone will vary considerably and may be anything from instantly to 28 days.Network providers will normally charge between £15 and £20 for the unlocking service. Alternatively, there are businesses that specialise in unlocking for a fee. The unlocking provider will need to know which firmware the iPhone 4 has been using; there is plenty of information available online to help the phone owner identify the version number.

Getting more from your unlocked iPhone 4

The advent of the iPhone 5 means that the value of the iPhone 4 has fallen, although an unlocked iPhone 4 will be more attractive to potential purchasers than one that isn’t. Even those who can’t wait to rush out and buy a new iPhone 5 may benefit from keeping and unlocking their iPhone 4.

Choosing the right business mobile phone

With so many people working on the go these days, a lot of business gets done over the phone and via mobile email rather than in the office. This means it’s very important to get the right business mobile phone, and more importantly, to make sure you’re on the right tariff so that you’re not paying more than you should each month.

So, what are the options for business phones these days and what you should be looking out for before you decide which one to buy? Here are just a few key things to bear in mind.

The first thing you are going to need is remote email access so that you are never out of touch with what’s happening back at the office and can always get to client or customer queries in a reasonable timeframe.  All smart phones these days will give you email access, but some are better than others. If you can’t decide between Blackberry, iPhone or Android then ask a colleague what the pros and cons of their phone are and try and base your decision on their feedback.

Battery life is also important. Running out of juice half way through the day when you’re not in the office is frustrating and means you could be out of contact for a crucial email or phone call – not ideal for client relations. Find out which phone has the longest battery life and see if it ticks all your other boxes as well.

Do you need access to documents while you’re out and about? If this is the case, keep an eye out for a phone with document support which allows you to access and work on important documents when you’re not in the office. This feature is currently available with the latest Blackberry models.

Mobile internet has become a crucial feature for lots of people and pretty much all business phones will have it. The cost of surfing the internet and using data will vary depending on your tariff and your provider. So, if you think you’re going to need a big monthly data allowance then make sure you let your provider know so they can recommend the appropriate tariff for you.

And finally, don’t forget those all-important Apps that can help you with everything from finding the nearest Costa Coffee to helping you organise your day. The availability of Apps for the phone you have your eye on may also sway your decision.

My Drug Is Social Media

I thought my stress would be gone once Christmas and gift buying was over. I was wrong. Instead I am bombarded daily with texts, emails, tweets, and Facebook messages from friends about New Years Eve plans. New York City or Boston? Bar or house party? Fancy or casual? Reservation or not? Overwhelmed does not even describe how I feel right now.

Finally, my plans have been finalized but some social stress remains. I took some time to think about it and I have found the root of my anxiety- its called FOMO( Fear of Missing Out). I most definitely have FOMO and its biggest instigator is social media in the palm of my hand. The best iPad app developers always look for ways to connect me further.

My friends live all over the East Coast. We all have busy lives. We work, some of us more than one job. We have family obligations, work out classes, errands. Indeed, there is a need for some social relief. But what happens when there a million different options, with a million different friends. How do you choose? How do you say no?

Until now, my answer to those questions have been, I haven’t, I don’t. I say yes to all invitations, end up spreading myself thin traveling to different cities, attending different parites. Why? Because the time I have said no, I am instantly made aware of the great time I am missing with uploads to Instagram, and check-ins on Facebook. It used to word of mouth. You would decline an invitation and weeks later you would heard the stories of the evening. Now those stories are in real time, and you are reminded every second on Twitter of the fun that you are missing out on as you sit on your couch with you cat.

So I have decided to make some changes in my social media habits as part of my new years resolution. No, I am not giving up facebook for a few months. ARE YOU CRAZY? but here is what I am going to do. I am disabling events I respond to on Facebook from coming up in my iPhone calendar. This way I am not THAT GIRL who declines the invite. But if it wasn’t important enough for me to physically ad to my calendar, that it is not the end of the world if I miss it. No one will notice I missed out on one happy hour meet up this week. I am going to unfollow certain people on Twitter. That guy from college that tweets every bar hes at and mentions everyone hes with has to go. If those people did not call to invite me, I should not feel I have to be there. I am also going to download apps to help keep me organzied like the Chase app so I know how much money I have to spend, and when I have the financial ability to say yes to the impromptu trip to Boston.

I love my smart phone. I love my iPhone apps. I couldnt live without them. But for once I am going to listen to my mother when she says “If I see that phone on at the dinner table, I am going to throw it out the window”. Well, I am not going to throw it out the window but maybe I will take a respite from how often I open those applications. I need some me time. I also said last year I would limit my intake of caffeine in 2012. I am sitting here with two empty Diet Coke cans and a coffee cup. Maybe my hope to rid myself of FOMO by limiting my mobile usage of social media is unrealistic. It probably is. But its worth a shot right?
